Peer Coach at Boulder 

 

A Boulder Care Peer Coach (PC) is a person who uses his or her lived experience of recovery from mental illness and/or substance use combined with skills learned in formal training to deliver peer support services with a focus on improving overall health and well-being, and quality of life.

 

Your Role as a Peer Coach

 

As a PC, you will report directly to our Peer Coaching Program Manager. In this role, you will help scale a fast-growing, high-impact health care organization while working directly with participants to empower them on their recovery journeys.

This position is unique in the flexibility and convenience that it offers. Ideally, you are located in Anchorage, AK or Juneau, AK, but you will have the opportunity to work from your own home and maintain flexible hours. You will occasionally be expected to join Clinical Team and Peer Coaching Team calls as well as provide coverage on weekends.

In this high-impact role you will deliver compassionate, empathetic telephonic, text-based, and video-based (telehealth) participant engagement and monitoring, assisted by a clinical decision-support tool. You will also coordinate with multidisciplinary care teams via telehealth tools to guide treatment planning and delivery.

 

Your Responsibilities

 

At Boulder, you’ll be a part of a dynamic, fast-growing team, working to:

  • Assist participants in identifying barriers to achieving sustained recovery and support by empowering them in the recovery management process
  • Assess participant progress, functioning, and recovery stage in collaboration with participants and Care Team members, identifying short/long-term and whole-health goals, and treatment management plans
  • Educate participants about substance use, available support services, treatments, and the Boulder Care program components
  • Link participants to appropriate services and resources (e.g., housing, transportation, food) to reduce the likelihood of reuse and promote improved health and well being
  • Assist with managing participant appointments with Care Team members and referrals outside of Boulder Care
  • Maintain clear and proactive follow-up communication with participants and providers, delivering participant outcomes reports to Care Team members
  • Report changes in participant status (e.g., high risk for returning to use) and potential support services leveraged to other Care Team members in a timely manner
  • Facilitate placement for higher levels of care as needed while maintaining contact with participants to enable continuity and streamline care transitions

 

Experiences and Attributes

 

You bring to the table a demonstrated experience in peer recovery and support services. You’ve spent least 24 months in active recovery. Or you have experience, personally or as an ally, with the following: mental health, substance use disorders, substance use disorders while pregnant, Hep C (and/or HIV), PTSD, trauma LGBTQ, comorbid psychiatric, or criminal justice.

 

Required Skills:

  • 1+ years experience navigating adjunctive opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment resources and referral processes
  • 24+ months in active recovery (if you are in active recovery)
  • Membership or certification with a relevant accredited body (CRM, PRC, or NCPRSS-National Certified for Peer Recovery Support Services) is preferred
  • Abilty to reach out to local and regional resources or recovery centers and help individuals leverage those resources
  • Can balance multiple tasks, prioritizing, and problem solving based on severity of need with minimal supervision
  • Clear written and verbal communication as well as extraordinary customer service and record keeping
  • Comfort leveraging Google Suite (GMail, GoogleDrive, GoogleDocs, etc.) or MS Office, video conferencing and messaging services like Slack for communication and collaboration
  • Ability to engage with participants as a peer support resource rather than a clinical resource

  • Exceptional listening skills, cultural competence, and strong boundary management
  • Exceptional teamwork and a willingness to collaborate with/learn from interdisciplinary Care Team members including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and care advocates in all aspects of care provision
