About the role

  • The Peer Coach Program Coordinator translates organizational strategies at the operational level, and balances a comprehensive knowledge of business drivers with a deep understanding of the team’s needs, in order to lead the long-term practices and daily efforts of the Peer Coaching team. 

  • The Boulder Peer Coaching (PC) team is an important part of a collaborative team that works together to guide patients with substance use disorder throughout their treatment journey. Peer Coaches tap into their unique lived experiences to serve as passionate advocates on behalf of participants.

Success in this role: 

  • Build high-trust relationships in order to provide mentorship to Peer Coaching team members.

  • Provide input to inform company policies and strategies relating to participant care.

  • Act as liaison between the Peer Coaching team and Boulder Care leadership.

  • Establish and implement communication strategies for the improvement and awareness of the Peer Coaching policies and standards.

  • Report, as necessary, changes in standards, and on performance against standards.

  • Establish and maintain clear boundaries, both for self and for direct reports. Strike an appropriate balance between advocating for the program/team and driving business success.

  • Ensure that the team’s onboarding and training materials are constantly reviewed and improved. 

  • Deliver feedback to the team, including regular 1:1’s with direct reports.

  • Take feedback from the team and roll it back into process improvements and day-to-day operations.

  • Surface ideas and concerns to People Operations/leadership as appropriate. 

  • Partner with People Operations and management to resolve issues in a timely and thoughtful manner.


Requirements for the role:

  • 3-5 year experience managing people who interact directly with patients or providers. Examples include managing a peer coaching team, case management, healthcare advocates, counselors, etc. 

  • 5+ years in healthcare, ideally in the payer or provider spaces

  • Peer certification in state of residence, where available, is required. Certification as a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) through NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, is expected within 9 months of hire

  • Experience establishing and measuring team performance metrics, such as OKRs or SLAs

  • Dynamic problem solving skills; able to take the lead with little direction, able to create order out of chaos, and able to navigate a quickly-changing startup environment with ease

  • Exceptional collaborative skills working with a care team to achieve outcomes enriching people's lives by achieving sustained recovery, and the ongoing evaluation and iteration of our care model as the company grows.

  • A passion for serving the needs of people with addiction and mental health challenges, using non-stigmatizing, non-judgmental person-first language.

  • Lived experience with recovery (your own or a loved one) or similar (food or housing insecurity, for example) is highly preferred.* 

  • Understanding of how we use healthcare terminology,  especially addiction medicine.

  • Comfortable with technology and have experience with common business tools (such as Google suite, video meetings, and spreadsheets).

  • Team-focused and collaborative. 

  • Understanding of, and contact with local and regional resources or recovery centers, and the ability to help individuals leverage those resources - Not required, but a plus.

  • Available full time during weekdays PST. May occasionally be asked to work non-standard hours.


To successfully lead the Peer Coaching team, the Program Coordinator must have demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of the group, which may include experience in peer recovery and support services. Lived experience is not required for this role, but is strongly preferred. Experience in any of the following areas will help inform work in this role: mental health disorders, substance use disorders, substance use disorders while pregnant, Hep C (and/or HIV), PTSD, trauma LGBTQ, comorbid psychiatric, or criminal justice.
